Nideport and IOV Foundation join forces to implement blockchain solutions in native forest restoration projects

Nideport, a company committed to ecosystem restoration and the regeneration of native forests, has announced a strategic alliance with IOV Foundation, a foundation dedicated to addressing the crisis of trust by providing solutions in the field of Blockchain technology with the mission of multiplying the impact of organizations and individuals seeking positive change in the world, enhancing the impact of organizations through the integration of digital trust systems by certifying projects to meet international standards. As a result of this alliance, two pilot projects were carried out. The objective of this collaboration is to continue scaling to more communities and more pilot projects that utilize blockchain traceability to optimize transparency and monitor the funding directed to the local communities where Nideport develops its forest restoration projects.

Experience with the Community in Misiones

The use of AGUA, an open-source tool developed by Globant, provided both Nideport and the communities, as well as external entities, with the ability to verify actions taken, the delivery of materials, the construction of housing improvements, and the development of training processes within these communities. This tool reinforces the reliability of the processes by demonstrating Nideport’s commitment to social and environmental well-being, aligning with the required sustainability standards.

In addition to several social impact projects that we have carried out with the local population, we have been working alongside the Tekoa Alecrin indigenous community, which brings together approximately 50 families of the Mbyá-Guaraní people. Through a process of Prior, Free, and Informed Consultation (CPLI), different needs of the community were identified, among which the most urgent was a deficit in community housing infrastructure. Therefore, in agreement with the community authorities and the Mburuvicha (Cacique in Guarani) Sebastián Benítez, it was decided to develop the Oga Project (which means “house” in the Guarani language) through which wooden houses that revive their traditional ways of living have been built (6 out of 35 planned modules have been built). These houses were designed through a participatory process between the community, Nideport, and the construction company contracted for the project. In this context, self-construction workshops in wood were also provided to various members of the community, who are direct beneficiaries of the houses.

In addition, support was provided to the Nueva Esperanza Cooperative through the “Women Cultivators” project, in which 14 women from the locality of Paraje Gentile make artisanal vinegar based on native forest fruits (jaboticaba, palmito, yerba mate, pindo, among others). The support provided consists of training in administration, marketing, and productive management, as well as the donation of new equipment that improved and expanded the cooperative’s production capacity. This is done through a collaboration and understanding agreement between Nideport and the Cooperative authorities, represented by its president Nélida Richardt.

The use of the AGUA tool by Nideport reinforces transparency and external verification in project management while ensuring that Nideport’s efforts in social impact projects, such as the Oga Project and support for the Nueva Esperanza Cooperative, align with sustainability standards and are recognized by all stakeholders. This comprehensive approach ensures that actions are visible, verifiable, and valued by the beneficiary communities, creating an ecosystem of trust among all involved parties.

This joint initiative seeks to create a traceability dashboard using the AGUA tool. This tool will allow for clear and precise tracking and visibility of the funding flow from Nideport to the local communities involved in the restoration of degraded or extinct native forests. Blockchain technology, known for its ability to ensure transparency and traceability, will be used as a decentralized tool to ensure that resources effectively reach the recipients and that the impact on the community is measurable and verifiable.

Objectives of the Agreement:

  • Implement blockchain technology for traceability and transparency in the financing of restoration projects.
  • Create a trust ecosystem with stakeholders and contribute to scalable pilot projects.
  • Increase transparency, security, and trust in the distribution of funds to local communities.
  • Generate a greater positive impact on biodiversity, climate, and community well-being through ecosystem restoration.

The alliance between Nideport and IOV Foundation also allows for the exploration of the possibility of transferring technologies, providing technical assistance, conducting studies, and carrying out research that promotes the use of decentralized and technological solutions to improve traceability and transparency in social and environmental impact projects.

“Our collaboration with IOV Foundation will allow us to apply innovative technologies such as blockchain to ensure greater transparency and security in our processes. We are convinced that this technology will help us boost our impact on local communities and in the restoration of biodiversity,” said the CEO of Nideport.

Sabrina Díaz Rato, Director of IOV Foundation, stated: “This implementation represents a groundbreaking advancement for IOV Foundation, standing out as an exemplary case of transparency in the management of social impact projects. This first step has allowed us to understand the immense value that these technologies bring to tracking and recording, in an auditable way by third parties, the resources allocated to communities. By strengthening trust and security throughout the entire chain of actors, we multiply the impact of organizations like Nideport, which demonstrate a genuine commitment to their purpose. With this experience, we hope to continue facilitating and multiplying work in communities, providing a tool that ensures that allocated funds fulfill their purpose, maximizing transparency, efficiency, and social and environmental responsibility.”

“At Globant, we developed AGUA with the aim of driving transparency in fund management and strengthening trust in sustainable projects. We are proud that, through blockchain technology, this product is making a positive impact on local communities and contributing to environmental preservation,” highlighted Marcio Degiovannini, VP Delivery of the Blockchain & Fast Code Studio at Globant.

Join Us for a More Sustainable and Equitable Future

This model is replicable in countless cases where it is desired to trace and make transparent the actions carried out in relation to the available funds of a project.

This alliance marks an important milestone in the use of advanced technologies to improve transparency and efficiency in triple impact ecological restoration projects. Transparency not only strengthens trust but also enhances the positive impact we can generate in our communities and the environment.

We invite you to join this effort to implement tools and technologies that ensure transparency and security at every step of our projects. Together, we can certify and maximize the social and environmental impact of our actions, creating a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
